About
An acquaintance of mine is running a business buying antique doors for smaller prices at for example house clearances. His eye for exceptional and well preserved doors is phenomanal. He then stores them in a huge warehouse near Chemnitz. Distributing the doors through typical channels like eBay works for him, but his high ranking website always brought in customers. But this website was from 2008 and never updated. Which meant that the shopping experience was rather, let's say, poor. No searchability, no filters, small displayed product images and of course no responsiveness.
About the Client
Die Seite ist Mega! Komme sehr gut zurecht damit und macht richtig Spaß damit zu arbeiten. Gibt's viel mehr Möglichkeiten im Vergleich zur alten Homepage!

Challenges
4000 Products, for some online shops, that's a huge number! For others it isn't. But this are surely too much products to transfer them manually. So, the challenge with this project was to extract the data from the old website, including images, and process them in a way so that they could be imported automatically into Shopify. This involved a few python scripts and a lot of contact with the old website provider. On top, in the old version the price of each door was embedded in the description and needed to be extracted into a separate field so customers could filter for the price. One of the most important features of a modern online shop.
Results
All products could be ex- and imported. The new shop is now ranking as google #1 search result for "antike Türen", images are shown in high quality AND are still loading fast. Each customer now experiences the navigation and structure of an online shop, as they are used to from other Retailers in the internet, leading to an increased request of doors. One additional plus of the new shop is, that google extracts the images of doors to be found in google images, and the products to be found in google shopping. This means two additional points of entry for potential customers. On top, the client is now able to create and manage his products via the shopify app.
